[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Sanae Hanekoma
Age: He appears to be in his mid-thirties. As for actual age? Hoboy. No canon age is ever given for him, but it’s fair to assume that he is much, much older than he looks. He goes with give or take about a... thousand years? More? He couldn’t even tell you specifically -- immortality does not make your memory infallible.
Gender: Male
Canon: The World Ends With You
Timeline: Post Secret Ending
Background:
http://twewy.wikia.com/wiki/Sanae_Hanekoma#Biography
http://twewy.wikia.com/wiki/Secret_Reports
Though a major player in The World Ends With You, not much is known about Sanae outside of his interactions with the Game. Pretty much the only important bit of headcanon that I can add in without going into a lot of detail is that he’s very old, and has been doing this for a very long time.
Personality:
Charming. Charismatic. Easy-going. The most evident thing about Sanae is the fact that he's incredibly easy to be around. Even more anti-social characters find themselves loosening up around the artist. He's pleasant to talk to, and a good listener. The sort of guy you can really open up to. Even early in the game -- only the second day of the first week -- the anti-social Neku admitted, “Something about him just...pulls you in. Not sure why, but... I kind of want to talk to him some more.” He falls easily into the role of a mentor figure, guiding and nudging his favorite players to a better understanding of both the Game and themselves. He’s brilliant at knowing just the right thing to say and when, even being able to wrap some pretty blunt observations in a more palatable manner.
But for all of his advice to ‘open up your world’ and ‘trust your partner’, Sanae prefers to keep himself a mysterious figure on the sidelines. It can take months of acquaintance before you hardly know a thing about him. Oh, he'll answer any questions he's asked -- and sometimes give a bit too much information -- but he certainly won't volunteer anything. He keeps most of his affairs rather private -- in Shibuya all of his art is done under a pseudonym and he avoids meeting clients if at all possible. It wasn’t until Joshua connected the dots for him that Neku realized his mentor and his idol, the artist CAT, were one in the same person.
Sanae is an interesting mix of optimist, realist, and pragmatist. He’s a creature of abounding hope and faith, a firm believer in the potential of people and humanity as a whole. But he’s not blindly idealistic enough to believe that the average person can reach their potential without a little bit of help.
Manipulative. Scheming. Practical. Despite his light-hearted demeanor, Sanae can hardly be considered all sunshine, puppies, and altruism. Far from. Not to mention he can be a greedy bastard who never does anything for free. The only question is how he expects you to pay.
Sanae sees absolutely no issue with orchestrating events to achieve what he believes to be the optimal results. A self-proclaimed gambler, most of his schemes depend on people acting exactly how he predicts them to. While always working towards the greater good, he sometimes will take actions that are difficult to see as beneficial. He was the one who gave Sho Minamimoto, one of the main antagonists in The World Ends With You, the means to potentially challenge the Composer. Joshua, who he’d assisted in becoming Composer in the first place. Not that he expected Minamimoto to actually be able to take out Joshua; he was simply setting an insane loose cannon onto the board, hoping to invalidate the Game. Sanae’s actions were also taken with full-knowledge that he would be branded a Fallen Angel if the Higher Plane ever realized what he had done.
'The ends justify the means' is a concept that he is entirely too comfortable with.
Not to say that he feels no remorse for his actions. His relationship with Joshua, while bizarre, is incredibly close, even for a Composer-Producer team. While he feels that he is justified in what he did, he does feel guilt for putting the Players -- especially Joshua -- into danger. And was also entirely ready to accept whatever punishment the Higher Plane deemed fit for his intrusion into the Game.
Why is your character a good fit for the setting of Soul Campaign, and what will they do once they are in the game?
Sanae is someone who works behind the scenes. Even as an extremely powerful, essentially immortal being, he prefers to use other people to get things done. While his fledgling Weapon abilities will be more of a nuisance than a help at first, and it will probably take him a very long time to open up to a Meister to resonate properly, he’ll be good at working with Shibusen and helping his fellow guests try and win this war. The Soul Eater universe is going to be real interesting for him, because there’s a lot of similarities -- importance of partnerships, resonance (as he would call it, ‘sync’) -- there’s going to be a lot that’s going to trip him up bad. But once he finds his bearings, he’d be a great asset to the war effort.
List the abilities your character will still have in Soul Campaign:
His intellect and his charisma, neither of which should ever be underestimated. While in his home reality, Sanae is an exceptionally powerful individual, but his supernatural abilities are not something he often depended on. He’s also a whiz with electronics and can make a damn fine cup o’ joe.
List the weaknesses your character will gain (or lose) in Soul Campaign:
LOTS. Sanae’s leaving behind a lot of abilities, getting dropped here into Death City. A more or less indefinite lifespan, the ability to move between Planes and Alternate Realities, second sight, foresight, the ability to shape and reform Soul, his Noise form, and probably a ton of other things that are never mentioned in canon. The biggest frustration will be the loss of his Imprinting ability, which was a sort of subliminal messaging. He also used it to guide people to not think too much on him and what he knows, which is going to make life incredibly difficult for him here. Also being mortal for the first time in a thousand years is going to suck.

Soul Description:
easy-going, manipulative, empathetic, charismatic, closed-off, creative
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/PsyRae/sanaesoul_zpse68cce39.jpg
Sanae’s soul takes the form of the CAT head that is used as the Gatito logo in The World Ends With You, minus the wings. Black with a soft grey aura, but with a chaotic mess of bright color constantly moving at the core.
Arisaka Type 97 Sniper Rifle:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/PsyRae/argh/sanaegun_zps47d886ed.jpg
All black, with the Gatito logo printed on the stock, along with a small feather charm hanging from the butt of the gun.
Cold. Calculating. Distant. Sanae’s weapon form is representative of the less-than-nice aspects of Sanae’s personality. As a gun weapon, the fact that he cannot partially transform, and is therefore only useful in the hands of a Meister is going to be quite a point of annoyance for him. Due to his closed-off nature, resonance with a Meister is going to be quite difficult, but he will be good at giving any Meister who has to handle him directions beyond ‘point at the target and shoot’.
Ability Boost
As a mentor sort of figure, it makes sense that as a weapon, Sanae has a sort of passive ability to boost the natural abilities of the Meister handling him. This is very important, considering that Sanae is entirely a long range weapon, and any Meister wielding him should be prepared to handle themselves if they are found at close range with an opponent. He will not take offence to a Meister bludgeoning an enemy with the butt of the gun. Sanae is a weapon that will require a large amount of patience, training, and practice to master, as befits a sniper rifle.
Soul Resonance - Darklit Planets
When/if Sanae manages Soul Resonance with a Meister, they will be able to perform ONE of six attacks, based on the Darklit Planet Pins he designed for the Gatito label. Black Venus would be available first, then Black Mercury, then so on as the list progresses, the next tier not being available until the Meister has mastered the previous.
Black Venus - The Meister’s soul wavelength will form as a much larger, more devastating bullet.
Black Mercury - The Meister will be able to create a few dark water orbs which function as proximity mines.
Black Mars - The Meister will be able to select an area on the ground from which black fire will leap up.
Black Jupiter - The Meister will be able to fire a black lightning bolt at the enemy.
Black Uranus - A pillar of black ice will shoot up from the ground beneath the enemy, damaging them.
Black Saturn - A black barrier will form around the Meister for a period of time, healing them and damaging any enemies that attempt to touch them.

[ The video starts with Sanae adjusting the communicator on the table. He leans back in his seat, quiet as he lights a cigarette. He seems to zone out for a long moment before speaking. Even so, each thought is disjointed, with long pauses in between. ]
Can’t get my damn thoughts in decent enough order to write a sentence. Mortal. S’been a long while since I’ve had to deal with that nonsense. [a short, almost bitter laugh] Don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone. Can’t even do a damn Imprint.
[ A long pause as he smokes. ]
In other news, I can apparently turn into a sniper rifle. So that’s new. But apparently to be any use, I’ll have to find myself a partner. At least I can take solace in the fact that I ain’t the only sucker that’s been dropped here.
[ Inhales deeply, sitting up. ]
Right. Note to self, things to research. Need to know more about Shibusen, this world, the witches, all this nonsense. Cookie cutter tours can only pass on so much. Figure out just what they expect us to do here. [scoffs] Not good for much beyond shootin’ a bullet, apparently. The boss would be way too entertained. I can already hear that damned giggle.
[ At that thought, he pauses. Finishes his cigarette, putting it out in the short glass he’s using as an ashtray, then fiddles with the communicator, switching the settings. ]
[Public]
Boss? If you’re out there, we got problems.
[ Pauses. ]
And to anyone else listening -- would someone kindly guide a fella to a place where he can get a decent cup a’ joe?
Third-Person
Ohhh, Christ. When was the last time he fell asleep on the floor? Did he drink last night? That didn’t seem right -- he couldn’t even remember the last time he got drunk. Maybe his coffee was finally deciding to fail him.
With a groan and a stretch, Sanae stood up... and was definitely not in his apartment.
“There’s a Judy Garland quote, but it just ain’t coming to me.” Not to mention this place was way too dark to be Oz. He had to pull his sunglasses down and look over them to take a proper look around. Nothing in his experience made him believe Hell actually existed, but if he did... this place would be a contender for what he imagined it to look like.
... Was this his punishment? Had the Higher Plane cottoned on to what he was doing? If so, he had much bigger things to worry about right now than the decor.
But Misery loved company, and it looked like Sanae wasn’t the only damned soul if Hell was the case. He stayed quiet as the others woke up, keeping back to the shadows, listening. Scared, confused, angry -- a variety of emotions and reactions, as was expected from a group of lost people.
And then the transmission started. Could be worse -- at least they were expected. At least someone had an idea of what was going on. Here to help fight a war? Really, it seemed a bit unnecessary to--
Sanae froze at the next bit of information. Reflexively, he attempted to adjust his vibe and--
Oh shit.
What the hell use was he supposed to be fighting a war if he had no abilities!?
He was only vaguely cognizant of the rest of the transmission -- something about Meisters and Weapons and living situations and blah blah blah. Sanae idly shuffled out with the rest of the group, their nervous chatter nothing more than buzzing in the back of his skull.
He was mortal. Mortal. How long had it been?
This was not going to be pleasant.
